Personal Statement

My journey in early childhood education has been driven by a deep commitment to fostering environments where children can thrive through play-based, exploratory learning. As the owner of Kinderoo Children's Academy, a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool, I have dedicated over two decades to cultivating a space where light, creativity, and the joy of discovery play central roles in our educational approach.

I am passionate about serving on the FLAEYC board because I believe in the transformative power of early childhood education and the importance of advocating for practices that nurture the whole child. My experience in developing and implementing innovative pedagogical strategies has equipped me with a unique perspective that I am eager to share with the broader educational community.

One of the strengths I bring to this role is my extensive experience with the Reggio Emilia approach and Dr. Drew's approach to Self-Active Education. These philosophies emphasize play, child-centered, inquiry-based learning, and I have seen firsthand how it empowers children to become active participants in their education. By incorporating open-ended materials and fostering an environment of curiosity, I have witnessed remarkable growth in our children's cognitive, social, and emotional development.

Moreover, my recent experiences with international educational programs, such as the Atelier Study Group in Italy and the inspiring projects at Scuola dell'infanzia Le Betulle di Cavriago, have broadened my understanding of diverse educational practices. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the value of cross-cultural exchange and the importance of incorporating global perspectives into our local educational practices.

As a leader, I am committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. My approach is rooted in active listening, empathy, and a genuine desire to support and uplift my colleagues. I understand the challenges faced by educators and am dedicated to advocating for the resources and support they need to succeed.

In addition to my practical experience, I bring a strong academic background and a continuous drive for professional development. I am dedicated to staying informed about the latest research and best practices in early childhood education, and I am eager to contribute my knowledge to the FLAEYC board.

In summary, my vision for serving on the FLAEYC board is to advocate for child-centered, play-based learning, support educators, and promote the integration of diverse, innovative educational practices. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of early childhood education in Florida, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
