I have worked in the field of early care and education for 35 years, as a teacher, director and for the past 15 years I have worked at Children First, the Head Start / Early Head Start grantee in Sarasota County. I am currently the Director of Programs for the Children First where I oversee the comprehensive curriculum, health, special needs, and developmental service delivery for the children in the program. I received my MA degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University-St. Paul, have taught various early childhood classes to students who share my passion for the field, and present workshops for local, state and national organizations. I have been heavily involved with my local NAEYC affiliate, the Early Childhood Association of Sarasota, where I have held numerous positions on the Executive Board, including Vice President, President-Elect and two terms as President.
I am the proud mother of one son who was adopted from South Korea as an infant. He has followed my path into the education field, but on the other end of the spectrum, working at the University of Florida. I relish my yearly treks back “home” to New England, and especially Maine, where we have a family summer home where I can delve deeper into my photography hobby.
I hold the early childhood educators of our young children in such high regard and highly encourage them to seek elevated levels of professional development (like the FLAEYC/NAEYC conferences); to stay current on early childhood trends and issues. This is an exciting time in the field of early care and education. Our children deserve the best beginning in life, as they will be our caregivers in the future. I am proud to be a part of the FLAEYC board and look forward to the exciting work ahead.
