Personal Statement

As the Early Learning and Literacy Principal at the UF Lastinger Center for Learning, I have dedicated my career to ensuring high-quality early childhood education reaches every child in Florida. It is with this commitment that I express my interest in serving on the board of the Florida Association for the Education of Young Children (FLAEYC).

FLAEYC's mission to provide leadership, advocacy, and professional development for early childhood professionals perfectly aligns with the Lastinger Center's mission. We both strive to create a world where every child and family has access to quality services, and where early childhood educators are valued, supported, and empowered.

My passion for this field extends beyond my current role. I see FLAEYC as a critical platform to make a significant statewide impact. Here, I can leverage my experience and skills to contribute in several key ways:

  • Building Bridges: My current position allows me to connect with a diverse group of early childhood professionals across Florida. Serving on the FLAEYC board would enable me to further strengthen these connections, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing to enhance early childhood initiatives throughout the state.

  • Championing Advocacy: I am an advocate for the needs and rights of young children, educators, and families. As a board member, I would use my expertise and voice to champion these needs on a larger platform, influencing public policy and funding decisions that directly impact early childhood education in Florida.

  • Ensuring Quality: One of FLAEYC's core goals is ensuring all children have access to a high-quality early childhood educator. My current role at the Lastinger Center gives me a deep understanding of the training, resources, and professional development needed to create a skilled and dedicated early childhood workforce. On the board, I would advocate for policies and programs that support the recruitment, retention, and ongoing development of these critical professionals.

My dedication to early childhood education, combined with my experience and connections, make me a strong candidate for the FLAEYC board. I am confident that together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of Florida's youngest learners, shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
